Jordan Bailey lay in her own bed in her own apartment trying to fall asleep alone for the first time in nearly three weeks.

She didn’t like it.

She tossed and turned, and soon tears were trickling down her face, and she was sobbing softly.

Ethan Bryant had lost interest in her.

They’d had a wonderful time here in New York as he’d introduced to a lifestyle she’d never thought she’d experience. Then they’d had a magical trip to Europe where he finalized his takeover of a multinational shipbuilder based in Italy.

Then they’d come home, and he dropped her off here at her own apartment instead of taking her to his luxurious townhouse.

He hadn’t kissed her goodbye – not even a peck on her cheek.

He’d been withdrawn and distracted the entire flight home.

Jordan was betting it had something to do with his ex-wife turning up at the press conference in Italy, telling Ethan she was there on a modeling assignment and having dinner with him the last evening – dinner with Ethan alone.

Jordan had not been invited to dinner, although Ethan did come back to the hotel alone and fucked her silly before he’d rolled over to his side of the bed and gone straight to sleep.

Jordan didn’t believe the supermodel had an assignment in Trieste. It was too convenient, and the woman seemed to be more interested in Ethan than she should be in an ex-husband.

Jordan was sure Angelique was there to get Ethan back.

There would be no more dinners, no more evenings in a playroom at the notorious Club Zen, no more anything with Ethan Bryant, she was sure.

At least the business end of their relationship had gone smoothly, and he’d expressed his thanks and appreciation for the way she’d handled the public relations requirements necessitated by the takeover.

She was getting a cup of coffee in the staff lunch room the next morning when Gabriella Dixon, one of the four partners who owned Jones Public Relations came in.

“Hey, Jordan, how was Italy?” she asked.

“Everything went very smoothly,” Jordan replied. “The press conference went off very well. It was a bit of a scramble to rearrange everything when Mr. Bryant decided to stay in Italy for the announcement instead of returning to his head office here, but I managed.”

“So he’s happy?”

“Yes. He thanked me more than once for the way I handled things and told me Jones Public Relations had done a better job than his own team would have done. And before he dropped me home last evening, he said if he has another sensitive issue come up before he sorts out his in-house P.R. Department, he’ll call me.”

“He dropped you off at your own apartment?” said Gabriella carefully. “He didn’t take you home with him?”

“I guess that’s over now that the assignment is finished, Gabi,” said Jordan sadly, trying to keep the tears from welling up in her eyes.

“Did you two have a disagreement while you were away?”

“No, we didn’t, but his supermodel ex-wife showed
